Our guest speaker was Dirk Vennix, Chief Executive of the Confederation of
Timber Industries.
Dirk introduced us to the recently formed CTI - an organisation that speaks with
one single voice on the key policy issues that matter to the timber supply chain.
The CTI represents all sectors from planting and logging, sawmilling, import and
distribution, joinery, manufacturing and biomass energy.
We were updated on the CTI strategic plan and activities focussing on the three
strategic areas of Growth of the use of sustainable timber, Skills and
encouragement of young people to choose a career in timber and Environmental
and Quality issues.
Seven club members were already part of the CTI supporters’ network and it is
pleasing to note that three further member companies and the LHC itself have
joined the network since the meeting.
Dirk concluded by explaining the CTI plans for 2016 and beyond.
A lively Q & A was followed by a visit to a local hostelry to conclude another
successful meeting which happened to coincide with St Patrick’s day!
